Howdy y’all!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.  So throw off the bowlines.  Sail away from the safe harbor.  Catch the trade winds in your sails.  Explore.  Dream.  Discover.”  {Mark Twain}

Joe & I are excited to be embarking on a new adventure.  On Friday we leave to drive down to Texas, where we will be living for the next 3 months.    And then we live somewhere else for 3 months.  And then we’ll move again and live somewhere else for 3 months and so on and so on until we tire of the nomadic lifestyle.

A couple of months ago, we decided to give Travel PT a try.  We hooked up with a company and they help find temporary positions in need of a physical therapist for 13 weeks at a time.   It was a difficult decision to make.  On the one hand, I was working in a job that I loved with great people and we love living in Iowa City being close by friends and family.  On the other hand, this was an awesome opportunity to travel around and experience living in all different parts of the country.  And the timing of it seemed perfect.  Joe had finished up working with the Southwestern Company after his summer, and had been spending the fall semester substitute teaching in middle school and high school.  So his job wasn’t keeping us in one place.  We don’t have a house yet.  We haven’t started a family yet.  We are completely able to be mobile at this time in our lives.

A few pro/con lists later and a couple of months thinking about it (we actually first talked about it in July when we were out in Colorado… those mountains will do it to me every time! always trying to get me to move closer!)  we decided that we couldn’t not do this.  It would be something we would regret if we didn’t give it a try.  So as scary as it is, we are going for it!! Maybe for a year or so, we’ll see how we like it.  Joe will be able to continue subbing and take some online classes to work towards an education degree.

Texas?? How’d we end up there?? Going into picking out our first assignment, our main qualification was somewhere warm.  If we have this opportunity, yup, I want to SKIP WINTER!  Our first thought was California or maybe Arizona.  But unfortunately, those states have lengthy state licensing processes and since it was my first assignment with the company (they handle all the licensing paperwork and details), the timing of it wouldn’t have worked to be able get started at the beginning of January.  So, we opened the search up to Texas and I got lined up with an outpatient position in Brenham.  It’s about halfway between Austin and Houston.  We will actually be living in College Station.  Furnished housing (so we don’t have to pack up ALL our stuff and haul it around every 3 months. things we aren’t taking have been put in storage) was hard to come by in Brenham, its a smaller town.  BUT it is home to Blue Bell  Creamery.  And while I have never had their ice cream, I look forward to getting well aquainted.  🙂

We are excited to share the details, the pictures, and- inevitably- the food stories, with everyone and to use this blog to help us stay in touch.  Being far away from family and friends will for sure be one of the hardest parts, but we will being trying hard to stay connected and also extending open invitations to come visit us wherever the adventure takes us!!  Really though, come visit.

    Well Molly, I’m not up for Facebook, but this blog thing is pretty cool. I look forward to updates. I want to get your take on College Station /A&M as compared and contrasted with the mecca that is IC and the Hawks. Travel safely and savor the experiences.

    Love your pictures, Molly! Thanks for posting them. I didn’t get a chance to look at your new camera very well when you were home for Christmas. You will get lots of enjoyment from it.
